Mackenzie O’Coyne, junior, is a triple threat on and off the stage, as she plays Ariel in the production of The Little Mermaid.

My favorite thing to do in drama is sing. I absolutely love performing show tunes because they tell a story and are filled with so much emotion,” O’Coyne said.

Additionally, O’Coyne plays a continuous role in a number of other clubs and programs at school. She is an active participant in the Vista Murrieta National Honor Society (NHS), California Scholarship Federation (CSF), the Dance Crew,  takes singing lessons, and participates in local singing competitions. However, The Little Mermaid is O’Coyne’s main priority.

“A pro of being the lead, is it is a great opportunity for me because, in college, I want to major in Musical Theatre,” said O’Coyne. A con of being the lead is I have to dedicate a lot of time and work in to the show, and with my heavy school schedule, I am so tired all the time.”

Even through the nonstop dedication The Little Mermaid requires, O’Coyne perseveres through her obstacles to put her best performance forward. O”Coyne perseveres by having a fellow peer to aspire to.

O’Coyne said, “One of my biggest inspirations that was previously in the Drama Program is Cassidy Finch. She was the lead in Legally Blonde, my first show. She worked so hard and was always prepared for rehearsal. Cassidy just set a great example and I strive everyday to follow in her footsteps.”

O’Coyne’s daily life reflects the role of the strong, persistent girl she plays in the musical. O’Coyne also has a strong connection to Ariel due to her love and fascination with Disney. O’Coyne said, “In my spare time, I love going to Disneyland! It is just such a happy atmosphere.”

“I am very excited for the play previews because it is the first time we have an audience, and I just love seeing how the audience will react to the show,” O’Coyne adds.
